Introduction to Rope Suspension

Rope suspensions are often an alluring and visceral experience that excites tops and bottoms alike and has drawn many people in to discover the practice of rope for themselves. This class serves as a first step in your suspension journey.

In this class we will discuss hardpoint evaluation, learn and practice uplines, discuss what makes a tie suspendable by learning a bent-leg tie that is suitable for suspensions, and apply our new skills by exploring a simple partial suspension.

There will be 5 hardpoints available for use in this class. Ticket pricing is based on hardpoint access -- $40 gets you a hardpoint, whether you're a tying pair or a solo attendee (all the content in this class is accessible to self-tyers). If you just want to audit the class (no hardpoint), you can do so for $20/person.

Prerequisites: You will need a rope kit adequate for suspension; for this class, 4x 8m hanks should be sufficient. You're welcome to bring any other gear you have, such as slings, carabiners, and rings, but it is not required -- loaner gear will be available for class.

Tops should be able to tie a single column tie that won't collapse, demonstrate good tension and rope handling skills, have a solid understanding of consent, negotiation, and anatomy fundamentals, be able to communicate clearly in and out of a scene, and have some floor work experience.

Bottoms should have enough floor work experience to have begun developing an awareness of how their body behaves in rope, have a solid understanding of consent, negotiation, and anatomy fundamentals, and be able to communicate clearly in and out of a scene.
